New Delhi, July 28: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written new history on the social networking site Instagram. The number of followers on his official Instagram account has crossed the 105 million (10.5 crore) mark, making him the first political leader in the world to reach this milestone globally. Notably, 4 million (40 lakh) new followers have been added to Prime Minister Modi’s account in just one week.

What is the main reason for the increase in followers? In the wake of the protests being held by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and ‘Gen Z’s’ (Gen Z) across the country against the NEET UG exam irregularities and question paper leaks, Prime Minister Modi had released Instagram reels in the form of ‘selfie videos’.
In this video, which was addressed to the youth as friends, he promised to bring strict laws against the exam mafia and set up fast track courts. The video created a huge buzz in the history of Instagram, garnering more than 300 million (30 crore) views in just 24 hours of its release. Due to this, millions of youth started following Modi’s account overnight.
Modi is the most followed political leader in the world on Instagram. The second-placed US President Donald Trump has about 43.2 million followers, which is double the number of followers of Modi.
A huge gap in Indian politics: Modi is ahead of other prominent politicians in India, such as Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath (16.1 million) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi (12.6 million).
