New Delhi, Aug 04: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has banned Dabur India from selling products like honey, ghee and edible oils using the ‘100 percent’ claims.
Such labelling is illegal and the ‘100 percent’ claims are against the Food Safety and Standards (Advertisement and Claims) Rules, 2018, the FSSAI has clarified. The regulator said such claims are vague, unverifiable and likely to mislead consumers.
In a statement on social media, the FSSAI said it has issued a prohibitory order to Dabur India Limited for selling food products with the misleading claim ‘100 percent’. This includes honey, apple cider vinegar, virgin coconut oil, sesame oil, ghee, coconut water, coconut milk, among other products.
Explaining the violations, FSSAI said that misleading claims such as ‘100% Natural’, ‘100% Pure’, ‘100% Purity Guaranteed’, ‘100% Organic’ and ‘100% Tender Coconut Water’ were displayed on the food products sold on the company’s website.
Responding to this, Dabur India said that it has received a notice from FSSAI. It said that the process of reviewing the contents mentioned on our website is underway.
Meanwhile, the inspection also revealed that the ‘Jaivik Bharat’ logo is being displayed on Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey products without valid FSSAI organic approval.
