Mangalore: St Aloysius Gonzaga School celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. Inspector Mitesh Prasad, Officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Mangaluru International Airport, was the Chief Guest.

Addressing the students, Inspector Mitesh Prasad highlighted their role as nation-builders and urged them to cultivate character, integrity, dedication and discipline. Recalling the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, he encouraged the students to remain focused, avoid distractions and contribute meaningfully to the nation.

Rev. Fr. Rohan D’Almeida SJ reminded the students that freedom does not mean the absence of rules and regulations but comes with responsibility. He urged them to reflect on their dependence on social media, mobile phones and online games and asked them to consider, “What am I giving to my country?” He also encouraged them to envision the India they wish to build by 2047, reminding them that the future of the nation depends on the choices and actions of its young citizens.

The dignitaries were escorted to the venue by the NCC cadets. The ceremonial hoisting of the Tricolour marked the commencement of the celebration, followed by the National Song and the National Anthem.

The cultural programme, themed “From Freedom to Progress: Together We Shape Tomorrow,” beautifully portrayed India’s journey and highlighted the responsibility of the younger generation in shaping its future. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of sweets to the students.
