Grand Golden Decoration – Andhra’s Sri Mavullamma Village Goddess to be adorned with 100 kg of gold

Andhra, August 23: The famous Sri Mavullamma Ammavari Divya Kshetra located in the heart of Bhimavaram in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh will soon witness a rare and historic moment. The temple committee, public representatives and devotees have taken up a grand project to completely decorate the Goddess Mavullamma, who is worshipped with immense devotion by devotees, with gold.

Once this process is completed, Sri Mavullamma Devi will write a historical record as the only village goddess in the country to appear with more than 100 kg of gold ornaments every day.

Gold Project and Gold Collection:
Necessary arrangements are being made quickly to offer 100 kg of gold ornaments and a special gold saree to the Goddess. Currently, there are 51 to 52 kg of gold ornaments on the idol of the Goddess. Recently, local MLA Pulaparthi Ramanjaneyulu officially handed over 23.43 kg of gold worth about ₹35 crore collected from devotees to the temple’s ‘Swarnamayam Samiti’. A special donation counter has been opened in the temple premises to collect the remaining 27 kg of gold required for making gold sarees.

Temple security upgraded to highest level:
Keeping in mind the value of the goddess’s ornaments and the increasing number of devotees, the temple security is being upgraded to highest level. The MLAs have proposed in the assembly to set up a special surveillance system and deploy gunmen for the protection of the temple and have requested the state DGP. In addition to the current 40+ CCTV cameras and home security personnel, modern metal detectors and facial recognition technology system are soon being installed in the temple.

Shakambari Decoration and Ashada Saare Tradition: The Mavullamma Temple is known for its grand decorations as well as traditional puja rituals. Every year on the auspicious days of Ashada Pournami and Guru Purnima, the Goddess is specially decorated as ‘Shakambari Devi’ with 6 tonnes of various vegetables, herbs and fruits. This puja is performed with the intention of ensuring that nature is abundant and agricultural crops are good. Along with this, the ‘Aashada Saare’ tradition, where devotees consider the village goddess as the mistress of their home and offer her, is a symbol of immense devotion and heritage here.
