New Delhi: For the first time in its 72-year history, the National Film Awards ceremony will be held outside Delhi and will be held in Kevadiya, Gujarat on September 22, officials said on Monday.
President Draupadi Murmu will present the National Film Awards.
The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be held in Kevadiya, which has been renamed Ekta Nagar and houses the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This breaks a decades-old tradition.
Holding the National Film Awards ceremony in Delhi has been a tradition for many decades. The first National Awards were held in 1954 at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. Since then, most of the award ceremonies have been held here. Usually, the President himself presents the awards to the winners. This is the first time that the ceremony has been shifted from Delhi to Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.
President Droupadi Murmu is expected to visit Gujarat later this month. During this visit, she is likely to visit Ekta Nagar and present the 72nd National Film Awards, according to reports.
