Moscow: Officials reported that the Ukrainian military launched an overnight attack targeting Russia using over 1,000 drones. The Mayor of Moscow described it as the “largest” attack on the city to date. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that its forces shot down 1,100 Ukrainian drones across the country.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 450 drones heading towards the Russian capital were destroyed. Some drones struck a Moscow oil refinery and a residential building. Ukraine carried out this attack on the third and final day of Russia’s first parliamentary elections since the war began.
For the first time since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, residents of the Russian-occupied Crimean region are participating in the Russian parliamentary elections. This move is part of the Kremlin’s efforts to consolidate control over occupied territories. Kyiv officials have strongly condemned the action, terming it illegal.
Voting in Russia began on Friday and concludes today, with the aim of boosting voter turnout. However, voting had already commenced late last month in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine and in certain regions along the Russian border. Officials have cited security reasons for the lengthy process.
