Bengaluru, Sep 23: The Karnataka government is taking a significant step towards making “harmful to health” warning stickers mandatory on salt packets.
Health Minister U.T. Khader announced in Bengaluru that this new rule would be implemented along the lines of the warnings found on liquor bottles.
Excessive consumption of salt and sugar is a major cause of various diseases. Khader noted that while salt and sugar were previously distributed by the government at subsidized rates, he had discontinued this practice during his tenure as Food Minister.
He stated that the primary objective behind this measure is to raise public awareness about the proper use of salt and to emphasize the production of healthier salt.
