Kathmandu, Sep 29: Rescue operations are underway at the site of a massive avalanche that struck the base camp of Mount Himlung Himal in Nepal; four bodies have been recovered so far, and officials report that 12 others remain missing.
The avalanche hit the base camp of the 7,126-meter-high Mount Himlung Himal, located in the Nar Phu region of Nepal’s Manang district.
Tents occupied by Nepali support staff—who were providing guidance and technical assistance to mountaineers—were completely buried under the snow.
The four recovered bodies have been identified as Chebi Bhote, Pasang Bhote, Birendra Gurung, and Ghan Shyam Rai. A 14-member rescue team from Kathmandu is conducting an intensive search operation for the remaining 12 individuals buried under the snow, utilizing helicopters and specialized equipment.
