Young Man Urges CM to Cancel BPL Cards of Affluent Families

Bengaluru, Oct 7: Many people do not want government schools but certainly want government schemes. Consequently, lakhs of families enroll their children in private schools while still holding BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration cards. Now, demands have arisen for action against such individuals. A young man from Hosanagara has written to the Chief Minister urging the immediate cancellation of BPL cards held by those who pay lakhs of rupees in fees for their children’s education. Here is the report:

What is the young man’s argument?

Families capable of paying lakhs of rupees in donations and fees for private schooling are financially sound. The young man questions how such families can be classified as living below the poverty line. He argues that if the government verifies and cancels the BPL cards of such ineligible individuals, free rations and government benefits will reach truly impoverished families.

Furthermore, the young man hopes that this measure would encourage parents to enroll their children in government schools, thereby fostering the development of government schools. Meanwhile, as the letter went viral, netizens expressed divided opinions. While some welcomed the young man’s suggestion, others raised objections, arguing, “Shouldn’t children from poor families have the opportunity to study in private schools? Parents often incur debt to send their children to private schools because quality education is unavailable in government schools; simply for that reason, cancelling their cards is wrong.”
