Mumbai, Feb 04: The wings of two aircraft collided at the Mumbai International Airport. An Air India (AI 2732) and an Indigo (6E 791) aircraft collided at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.


While the Air India aircraft, which was ready to depart for Coimbatore, was taxiing, an Indigo aircraft that had landed from Hyderabad was coming in the same direction. During this movement, the right wing tips of both the aircraft touched each other. It is said that there were passengers on both the aircraft at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, no passengers or crew were injured in the incident. Air India has made alternative arrangements to send its passengers to their desired destinations. Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have visited the spot and assessed the situation. Both airlines have expressed regret over the incident and said they have informed the authorities.
What happened?
Air India flight AI 2732 was taxiing from C1 towards M4 for departure when an IndiGo aircraft coming down the runway taxied to merge with B1. During this movement, the right wing tips of both aircraft touched each other. This caused damage to the wings of both aircraft. This could have led to a major accident, officials said.
Air India, IndiGo response to the incident
On February 3, flight AI2732 from Mumbai to Coimbatore collided with another aircraft while waiting on the taxiway before take-off.
The wing tips of both aircraft were damaged. As a result, the wing tip of our aircraft was damaged, Air India said in a statement. All passengers have been safely deplaned. Our team has made alternative arrangements to take the passengers to their destination.
IndiGo has also issued a clarification. The wingtip of our flight 6E 791 from Hyderabad to Mumbai collided with the wing of another aircraft while taxiing after landing.
All passengers are safe and have disembarked after parking. The aircraft has been subjected to a maintenance check. The authorities have been informed of this incident after it took place.
