New LPG rules effective from November 1, including price revisions and mandatory e-KYC

New Delhi: Changes to the rules and pricing for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders will come into effect starting November 1. Oil marketing companies—Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas—will continue their practice of revising LPG rates on the first day of every month. Additionally, the Aadhaar e-KYC requirement will remain in place; while it was introduced in October, its enforcement is set to become stricter from November.

Mandatory Aadhaar e-KYC:

For customers receiving cylinders at a subsidized rate, biometric Aadhaar authentication—or the e-KYC process—has been made mandatory. Failure to complete this process may result in the inability to book subsidized cylinders. Customers can complete the e-KYC process via the gas provider’s official app or website, using either a facial scan or an OTP (One-Time Password).

Although the mandatory e-KYC rule was introduced in October, it is expected to be enforced more strictly starting in November. Prices of Commercial and Domestic Cylinders

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) revise the prices of commercial cylinders on the first day of every month. New rates are set to be announced on November 1st, based on global energy market conditions. However, there have been no significant changes in the price of the 14.2 kg domestic (household) cylinder in recent months.

Consumers are advised to check the exact rates for their city and verify their e-KYC status before booking a refill for the month of November.

What happens if e-KYC is not completed?

If LPG consumers do not complete their e-KYC, they will not be eligible to receive cylinders at the subsidized rate. According to some reports, such consumers will only have the option to purchase 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders at commercial rates.
