Sushila Bhat to be conferred with ‘Kannada Payaswini Achievement Award’

Mangaluru: Sushila Bhat, fondly known as ‘Nagebandhu’ for her work in agriculture, will be conferred the ‘Kannada Payaswini Achievement Award’ on February 22 in Kasaragod.

Sushila Bhat Pathanadka received the title ‘Nagebandhu’ through Navabharat newspaper as early as 1970.

She is the wife of Shankara Narayana Bhat of Pathanadka near Kottur. She has already written and released books on jackfruit, mango, and banana vermicelli (sevige). She is the first to bring to light the technology of making vermicelli from raw bananas. She has conducted workshops at Akashvani Kannur, the Kasaragod Agriculture Department, and also in Ballari.

She is originally the daughter of Timmanna Bhat of Negalaguli in Alike village and the elder sister of Dr. Suresh Negalaguli.

It is also noteworthy that three years ago she presided over the Raymond Dcunha Taccode organised Kavigoshti Literary Conference.

According to a statement by the organization’s coordinator, Vaman Rao Bekal, she will be honored with the ‘Kannada Payaswini Achievement Award’ on February 22.
