Iran ship attacked; 101 missing; ‘No negotiations’ with US, war to continue

Tehran: Iran has no intention of holding talks with the US and can continue the Middle East war as long as necessary, a senior aide to late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told state TV, AFP reported.

Iran “has no trust in the Americans and will not negotiate with them. We can continue the war as long as we want,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said on Wednesday that Iran still has significant capability to launch missiles from missile launch sites in the Islamic Republic.

“We have destroyed dozens of missile launch sites that posed a significant threat to Israel,” Israeli military spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin told a televised briefing.

An Iranian ship was attacked by a submarine off the coast of Sri Lanka, leaving at least 101 people missing and 78 injured, Reuters reported.

The ship was an Iranian naval warship that had been taking part in the Indian Navy’s International Fleet Review (IFR) and the multinational Operation Milan in Visakhapatnam in mid-February.

The Iris Dena warship was returning to Iran after participating in naval exercises organized by India when the incident occurred early this morning.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said the Sri Lankan military had rescued at least 30 people on board and the injured had been admitted to a hospital in Galle.
