Eight Industrial Hydrogen Systems in Landmark Scale-Up Milestone

Mangaluru: Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from the Dakshina Kannada constituency, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp and flagging off eight modular industrial hydrogen generation skids from the facility here.
The occasion marked a significant milestone in the commercial deployment of indigenously designed and manufactured electrolyzer technology in India.

Dr. Manipaddy Krishna Kumar (COO), Dr. Goutham Dalapati (CTO), and Ramyasri Doddamani Srivastava (Director), along with members of the industry and the hydrogen innovation community, were present at the programme.
Dr. Manipaddy Krishna Kumar, in his introductory remarks, stated that the modular industrial
hydrogen generation skids manufactured locally in Mangaluru represent a first-of-its-kind
technology platform in India. He highlighted that this achievement aligns with the vision of the
Prime Minister and supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), while also
embodying the “Make in India” and “Local for Global” initiatives.

The dispatch represents a defining transition: from advanced technology development to real-world
industrial application. Each skid is a fully integrated, on-site hydrogen generation system engineered and
assembled in Mangalore using HYDGEN’s proprietary PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolyzer
technology, developed at a level of engineering maturity that remains rare among Indian deep tech
companies in the hydrogen space.

The systems are designed for industries that require continuous, high-purity hydrogen on- site and on-
demand: eliminating dependence on cylinder logistics, reducing operational costs, and delivering the
supply reliability that modern industrial processes demand. Unlike traditional supply models that rely on
centralised production and physical transportation, HYDGEN’s modular architecture allows hydrogen to
be generated precisely where and when it is needed.
Underpinning the commercial confidence behind this deployment is a track record of over 1,500
cumulative hours of commercial operational testing, a body of real-world data demonstrating the
viability, resilience, and consistent performance of HYDGEN’s systems under industrial operating
conditions. This is not laboratory data; it is proof accumulated through deployment.

Leadership Perspective
“Hydrogen systems must move beyond research environments and into real industrial applications.
Mangalore has given us the engineering foundation and the manufacturing discipline to build systems
that industries can adopt today. This dispatch is proof that deep tech, built in Karnataka, can meet the
demands of modern industry… and scale further from here. “Dr. Mannipady Krishna Kumar, Co-Founder,
HYDGEN and Dr. Goutham Dalapati (CTO)

Aligned with India’s Hydrogen Ambitions
This deployment arrives at a moment of accelerating national and state commitment to hydrogen as a
strategic industrial energy carrier. India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), with its target of

producing five million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, has established a clear policy
signal for domestic hydrogen technology development.
Karnataka has further reinforced this direction through its own Green Hydrogen Policy, which actively
encourages investment in local hydrogen manufacturing and deployment capability. HYDGEN’s systems
directly embody the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” imperatives: indigenously designed,
locally manufactured, and deployed across India’s industrial heartland. As India works to reduce its
dependence on imported energy and industrial inputs, the ability to generate hydrogen on-site from
domestically engineered systems represents a meaningful step toward energy sovereignty.

A First-of-Its-Kind Technology Platform HYDGEN’s modular electrolyzer systems are distinguished by several capabilities that are rare in the
Indian market and selectively available globally:
 Broad technology platform: Beyond the PEM systems deployed here, HYDGEN designs and
manufactures both AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) and PEM electrolyzer technology – a dual-
platform capability that enables tailored hydrogen solutions across a wider range of industrial
requirements and operating environments, and that remains exceptionally rare among Indian
(and global) manufacturers.
 Modular, scalable design: Systems are engineered in skid-mounted configurations that allow
industrial customers to scale capacity in line with operational growth, without large upfront
infrastructure commitments.
 On-site, on-demand production: Hydrogen is generated at the point of use, removing supply
chain risk, reducing logistics cost, and ensuring consistent purity and availability.
 Commercially validated performance: Over 1,500 cumulative hours of real-world operation
provides a robust performance baseline, moving well beyond laboratory benchmarks into industrially relevant proof.
 Renewables-ready: Systems can be integrated with renewable energy sources, enabling the path
to fully green hydrogen production where grid or solar power permits.

Local Roots, Global Ambition
HYDGEN’s engineering and manufacturing operations are anchored in Mangalore: a city that has quietly
become home to one of India’s most technically ambitious hydrogen ventures. The company’s local
presence reflects a deliberate choice: to build deep technical capability in Karnataka rather than offshore
the complexity of electrochemical engineering. At the same time, HYDGEN operates with a global
commercial lens. Incorporated in both India and Singapore, with a growing presence across Asia-Pacific,
MENA, Europe and North America, the company is actively engaged with industrial customers and partners internationally. The systems dispatched today from Mangalore are not a local proof-of- concept; they are the beginning of a deployment pipeline with reach well beyond India’s borders.
