Washington, March 24: In a significant development, US President Donald Trump has declared a ceasefire, saying that there will be no attacks on Iranian power plants for the next five days.

Yes.. President Donald Trump has extended the deadline given to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the US will delay any potential attacks on Iranian power plants for the next five days.
US President Donald Trump made the announcement just hours before the original deadline, marking an early success for the global community’s efforts to stop the war.
Trump shared the new declaration on his Twitter social platform on Monday, saying in a message written in all caps, that the US and Iran are engaged in “very good and productive conversations”. He wrote that this could lead to a “complete resolution” of the conflict.
Trump said the talks would continue throughout the week, without providing specific details about the diplomatic efforts. “I am pleased to report that the United States and Iran have had very good and productive conversations over the past two days regarding a full and complete resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.
Based on the nature and tone of these deep, detailed, and constructive conversations that have continued throughout the week, and subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions, I have directed the Department of Defense to suspend any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a period of five days,” Trump wrote.
Iran rejects talks
While US President Donald Trump has declared the talks a success, Iran has denied any such talks with the US. It has also said the ceasefire is temporary and the future of the war depends entirely on the progress of the talks.
Iranian officials said there had been no indication from Tehran that any conditions had been agreed to, or any confirmation that formal talks were actually taking place.
Iranian state TV reported on the same issue, denying Trump’s statement. Trump also announced that the original deadline for the ceasefire had been set for around 0000 GMT on Tuesday, but that it would be pushed back on Monday. In response, Iranian state television showed an on-screen graphic showing the US president backing down after what it described as Iran’s strong warning.
