Nashik: A Nashik court on Sunday extended the police custody of self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat, who is in jail for sexually assaulting women in the name of astrology and making a video of them, till April 1.

Accused Ashok Kharat was produced before the court today after his police custody period expired.
During the hearing, Public Prosecutor Shailendra Bagde said that the investigation into the case is still ongoing and the accused is not cooperating. Hence, he requested that the police custody period be extended. The court, accepting the request of the Public Prosecutor, extended the police custody of the accused till April 1.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has intensified the investigation into the case against Ashok Kharat, has received complaints from over 100 women over the phone, police said.
Two more cases have been registered in connection with the sexual assault case, taking the total number of FIRs registered against Kharat at the city’s Sarkarwada police station to ten, including eight for sexual assault and two for cheating.
