Veteran real estate developer and construction pioneer Lancy Joseph Mascarenhas, founder of Lancy Constructions, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, at the age of 77. Widely regarded as one of the visionaries behind Mangalore’s modern skyline, he transformed the city’s urban landscape through his dedication, hard work, and farsighted leadership.
Born on February 13, 1949, Lancy Joseph Mascarenhas began his professional journey in 1973 as a licensed plumber, undertaking drainage and minor repair works. With unwavering commitment to quality and excellence, he steadily rose to prominence as a respected civil contractor and entrepreneur.

A major breakthrough came in 1982 with the construction of the landmark “Dhanyavaad” building at Hampankatta, which established his reputation in the construction industry.
In 1984, he ventured into the apartment sector with the “Pompei Shade Apartments,” contributing significantly to the growth of modern residential living in coastal Karnataka.
Over the decades, his business empire expanded to provide livelihood opportunities to thousands of people. His group of companies also included reputed firms such as Ellen Promoters and Nishal Associates.
