Puttur: The Postgraduate Department of Computer Applications at St Philomena College (Autonomous) Puttur, in association with Bengaluru-based cyber security firm Tallfor, has organized a 30-hour (four-day) workshop on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics for Master of Computer Applications (MCA) students recently.







The workshop was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp at the college’s postgraduate auditorium.
Presiding over the inaugural function, Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Vice Principal of St Philomena College, emphasized the growing importance of cyber awareness in contemporary society. He stated that technology has become an inseparable part of daily life, making online safety essential not only for technical professionals but for every individual. He noted that cyberattacks, misuse of information, online fraud, and privacy-related issues are among the major challenges faced by society today. Such workshops, he said, help create awareness about responsible conduct in the digital world and highlight the importance of safeguarding personal and professional information. He also encouraged students to participate actively in the programme.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Abdul Sharief, Head of Tallfor and Cyber Security Consultant, said that learning emerging technologies has become a necessity in today’s technology-driven era. He observed that cyber security and digital forensics are among the most promising fields with significant career opportunities in the future. As technology continues to advance rapidly, cyber threats are also increasing, making knowledge, awareness, and responsible usage more important than ever.
Dr Sharief further stressed that success in life requires not only technical expertise but also emotional intelligence, human values, and the ability to manage stress effectively. He pointed out that many information technology professionals today are leaving their jobs due to work pressure, mental fatigue, and the lack of a healthy work-life balance. Therefore, he said, cultivating a positive attitude and leading a value-based life are just as important as acquiring professional skills.
The inaugural programme commenced with a prayer rendered by Ananya and her team from the First MCA class. Addressing the gathering, organizers expressed hope that the workshop would not only enhance students’ technical knowledge but also guide them towards becoming responsible digital citizens.
Dr Vinayachandra, Dean of the Postgraduate Department of Computer Applications, welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. Akshatha B., Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Applications, proposed the vote of thanks. Preekshitha of First year MCA compered.

During the four-day workshop, students will gain hands-on exposure to modern tools and advanced technologies used in the fields of cyber security and digital forensics, enabling them to strengthen their practical skills and understanding of contemporary digital security challenges.
