Thumbay: In observance of World Environment Day, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, in collaboration with Pudu Gram Panchayat, organized a cleaning drive and awareness programme on 6 June 2026.
The programme commenced with a cleaning drive from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in and around Punchame and Farangipete. Students and faculty actively participated in spreading awareness among the public about environmental conservation, sanitation, and the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.






Aawareness programme was subsequently conducted from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Government Higher Primary School, Ammemar. The event began with a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome to the dignitaries and participants.
The gathering was addressed by several dignitaries who emphasized the significance of environmental conservation and community participation. Former ZillaPanchayat Member Umar Farooq highlighted the concept of international cleanliness and stressed the need to cultivate cleanliness practices in the country. GramaPanchayat President Ramlan appreciated the collaborative efforts and assured support for future initiatives promoting cleanliness, reduced plastic usage, and environmental sustainability. Administrator of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, Fr. Rohan Michael Dias thanked the gathering for their cooperation, emphasized the importance of protecting Mother Earth, and assured continued support for similar activities. Nursing Superintendent Silviya Nisha Lobo encouraged the use of reusable jute bags, minimal plastic consumption, and participation in plantation drives.
As part of the programme, students conducted an awareness session through role play to educate the community on environmental protection and sustainable living practices.
The programme was graced by the presence of Grama Panchayat President Ramlan, Administrator Fr. Rohan Michael Dias, Former Zilla Panchayat Member Umar Farooq, Grama Panchayat Vice President Ruksana Banu, School President Jubir, Panchayat Members Saramma, Athik, and Nabeesa, Headmistress Sharadha K., Principal Dr. Reena Wilma Frank, Nursing Superintendent Silviya Nisha Lobo, and NSS Coordinator and SNA Advisor Dr. Edveena Philip Monis. A total of 80 participants attended the programme, including members of the Youth Cleanliness Team of Ammemar, faculty and students of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, teaching staff and students of Government Higher Primary School, and community members.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers for their valuable contributions. The event ended with the National Anthem, marking the successful conclusion of the World Environment Day Programme.
