Faculty Induction Programme 2026 Inaugurated at St Philomena Autonomous College

Puttur: The five-day Faculty Induction Programme 2026 for newly appointed faculty members, organized by the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell of St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, was inaugurated on June 15 at the PG Seminar Hall with an academic fervour.

The programme was formally inaugurated by the Correspondent of the College, Rev. Dr J. B. Saldanha, who lit the sacred lamp and presided over the inaugural ceremony. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that every institution is guided by a vision and mission, and it is essential for faculty members to understand and align themselves with these foundational ideals. He noted that St Philomena College is a unique institution with a distinct identity and culture. As teachers serve as role models for students, he said, maintaining ethical values, a balanced personality, and a clear understanding of professional responsibilities and conduct would help them become outstanding educators and academicians.

During her visit to the college, Prof. Shobha G., Director, Department of Collegiate Education, Karnataka, participated in the programme. In her address, she remarked that teaching is not merely a profession but a commitment. She stressed the importance of being fully dedicated to one’s profession and to the vision and mission of the institution. She further highlighted the need for educators to understand the mindset of students, stating that only by building meaningful relationships and understanding students’ aspirations can teachers become true role models in their lives.

She was accompanied by Achala V. Hegde, Gazetted Manager, Department of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru, who also graced the occasion.

In his motivational message, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montero urged the newly appointed faculty members to familiarize themselves with the institution’s management, traditions, and culture. He also emphasized the importance of understanding contemporary challenges in higher education and keeping abreast of developments related to the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), and the Ministry of Education. “We grow by learning. Through positivity, commitment, and hard work, let us work together to build the institution further,” he said.

Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar, Vice Principal, newly appointed faculty members, and members of the staff were present on the occasion.

The programme commenced with an invocation by Sriraga, Asst Professor in the Department of Commerce (M.Com.). Dr Edwin D’Souza, Convener of the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell, welcomed the gathering, while Dr Radhakrishna, Member of the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell, proposed the vote of thanks. Akshata Asst professor in the Department of MCA compered.

The Faculty Induction Programme is organized annually to acquaint newly recruited faculty members with the institution’s functioning, policies, academic practices, and professional expectations. The initiative aims to enhance the professional competencies of teachers and equip them to effectively undertake teaching responsibilities and student mentoring.
