Chennai, Octo 5: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Director of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stationed in Chennai and a director of a private aviation company in connection with a bribery case involving Rs 2.5 lakh.

The accused DGCA official, Sushil Kumar Garg (Deputy Director, Airworthiness Division, DGCA, Chennai), was allegedly caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh in Tamil Nadu. Sachin Keshav Bhane, a director of ‘M/s Equi Air Training Organization Private Limited’, has also been arrested in connection with the case.
The CBI has registered a case against Garg, Bhane, ‘M/s Equi Air Training Organization Private Limited’, and others on charges of demanding and accepting illegal gratification (a bribe) in exchange for extending undue or illegal favors regarding the issuance of ‘airworthiness certification’ for aircraft operated by the concerned company. According to the case registered by the CBI, Sushil Kumar Garg is alleged to have demanded an illegal payment (bribe) in connection with the airworthiness certification of aircraft operated by ‘M/s Equi Air Training Organization Private Limited’.
It is alleged that Garg accepted Rs.2.5 lakh as part of the bribe. Both Garg and Bhane have been arrested in connection with this case. Further details regarding the CBI’s action and the investigation are awaited.
