Shivamogga: ‘Shaurya,’ an elephant housed at the Sakrebailu Elephant Camp in Shivamogga—a renowned Malnad tourist destination and habitat for elephants—has died after failing to respond to treatment.

Shaurya had been suffering from severe illness for the past few days and had sustained a serious injury to its leg. Although the elephant was undergoing treatment at the camp for the non-healing, painful wound, it succumbed without responding to the medical care.
Allegations have surfaced suggesting that the elephant’s condition deteriorated due to the unavailability of expert veterinarians at the Sakrebailu camp at the critical time.
Upon learning of the elephant’s death, senior forest officials rushed to the site to inspect the situation. A post-mortem examination of Shaurya has commenced in the presence of officials; the exact cause of death will be determined once the report is received.
