No more directing films – Alia Bhatt’s father announces retirement

Mumbai: Bollywood’s senior director, Alia Bhatt’s father Mahesh Bhatt, has officially announced his retirement from film directing. He has made it clear that he will never don the director’s cap again. Having given wonderful films like ‘Arth’, ‘Saaransh’, ‘Naam’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi’ and ‘Sadak’, he has now stepped away from the film industry. He said that he is currently finding great joy in mentoring new talents.

Today’s changed world of cinema

Mahesh Bhatt believes that today’s filmmaking has completely changed. ‘Films are being prepared according to the demands of today’s market. Before the shooting starts, it is decided in advance that the story and content should be like this. Before the writing starts, the type of film to be made is fixed. Due to this, directors do not have any opportunity to use their own imagination or freedom these days,’ he said.

‘Sadak 2’ is the last film

Mahesh Bhatt stayed away from directing after the film ‘Karthoos’ released in 1999. Then, after two decades, i.e. in 2020, he directed the film ‘Sadak 2’. After that, everyone thought that he would do films again. But, that was not the case.

Desire to guide newcomers

In his five-decade-long career, Mahesh Bhatt has directed more than 50 films. He is known for giving emotional films as well as huge commercial hits.

At the current stage of his life, he would rather contribute to the success of others than make films for himself. ‘I don’t want to direct films anymore. I want to work as a mentor to young talents,’ he shared his thoughts.
