Shimla: A horrific accident occurred near the north gate of Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, killing one tourist and injuring three others.
The speeding Mahindra Scorpio car lost control of the driver and hit the under-construction bridge and jumped off the road. The severity of the accident was such that it got stuck between the iron bars of a nearby under-construction building, which pierced and crushed it.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 10 pm when the tourist’s car was travelling from Manali to Lahaul. The video of the accident is going viral on social media.
According to preliminary information, as the car was coming out of Atal Tunnel, the driver lost control of the SUV. Later, it hit the barricades on the side of the road and fell on the under-construction bridge.
The southern gateway of the Atal Tunnel is located 25 km from Manali at an altitude of 3,060 meters. The northern gateway of the tunnel is located near Telling, a village called Sissu in the Lahaul Valley, at an altitude of 3,071 meters.
