Moodubidire: Ethical values, patient safety and a spirit of service must remain the foundation of the medical profession, said Dr. M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, stressing that the doctor–patient relationship should be built on trust, responsibility, and mutual respect.










He was speaking at the installation ceremony of the newly selected office-bearers of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Moodubidirechapter, and the National Doctors’ Day felicitation programme held at Alva’s Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Moodubidire.
Highlighting the changing nature of the healthcare sector, Dr. Alva said that medicine was not merely a profession but a noble service that offered immense satisfaction and social recognition. “The medical field has undergone continuous transformation with advancements in technology and knowledge. Doctors must keep upgrading themselves to meet the changing needs of society,” he said.
Assuring his institution’s support to the newly formed IMA Moodubidirechapter, he said that there were immense opportunities to serve society through the medical field and that Alva’s would continue to collaborate with the association in healthcare initiatives.
IMA is a support system for doctors.
IMA Karnataka State President Dr. T.A. Veerabhadrayya said that the Indian Medical Association, one of the largest organisations of doctors in the world, plays a crucial role in addressing professional issues faced by doctors and protecting their interests. It stands by its members during challenging situations and extends professional assistance, including insurance and other welfare benefits,” he said.
Responsibility of doctors has increased
Karnataka Medical Council President Dr.Yogananda Reddy said that Alva’s Education Foundation had made significant contributions by integrating education with cultural values and had played an important role in developing Moodubidire as an educational and cultural hub.
Referring to the 26 doctors who joined the newly established IMA Moodubidire unit, he said that every doctor carries a major responsibility as thousands of people depend on their services.
“Doctors should remain committed to society and uphold the ethical values of the profession. Though healthcare has gradually expanded as an industry, the service orientation of medicine should never be compromised,” he said.He added that professional organisations such as IMA were essential for the growth of doctors and for creating responsible leadership in the medical community.
Private sector participation strengthens public healthcare
Dakshina Kannada District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah said that collaboration between government and private healthcare institutions had strengthened public health services in the district.“Five private hospitals in Dakshina Kannada are currently supporting government healthcare initiatives. Alva’s has already been extending cooperation to the Moodubidire Community Health Centre, and similar collaboration is expected in the future in other regions,” he said.He noted that institutions driven by creativity and commitment played a vital role in establishing quality healthcare facilities.
Doctors must overcome challenges through unity
District Surgeon and Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital Dr. D.S. Shivaprakash said that doctors were facing challenges arising from professional differences, communication gaps and misunderstandings.Many issues can be addressed through better communication and unity among doctors. The medical fraternity must work together to overcome these challenges and strengthen the profession, he said.
IMA Karnataka State Divisional Coordinator Dr. G.K. Bhat said doctors should collectively work for the dignity and progress of the profession. He urged the government to take appropriate measures to prevent attacks on doctors.
Moodubidire gets 183rd IMA unit in Karnataka
IMA Karnataka State Vice-President Dr.AnnayyaKulal said the establishment of the Moodubidire branch as the 183rd unit of IMA Karnataka was a significant development.“Twenty-six doctors have enrolled as members at the initial stage itself. The unit will work towards serving society and addressing healthcare-related needs in the region,” he said.The newly elected office-bearers of the first IMA Moodubidire unit were formally inducted during the programme. The oath ceremony and flag ceremony were conducted as part of the installation.
Doctors felicitated
Doctors who made notable contributions to the medical field were honoured as part of National Doctors’ Day celebrations. The awardees included Dr.Prabhachandra Jain, Dr. K.R. Joishi, Dr. Jayagopal Tholpady, Dr. Leela S. Bhat and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Shetty.
IMA Moodubidire President Dr. Shamanth Shetty welcomed the gathering, while Secretary Dr. Ashish Sharma delivered the vote of thanks, Lecturer Venugopal Shetty compered the programme, and Treasurer Dr. Dileep Kumar conducted the flag salutation ceremony.
