Mangaluru, July 15: Attacks on ships in the Gulf region have intensified, and a youth from Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district has escaped a fierce missile attack by Iranian forces off the coast of Oman. All the Indian crew members on the ship that was attacked have been rescued, including Rachan Poojary, a resident of Perne in the district.

Rachan Poojary, a resident of Perne Biliyur in Bantwal taluk, who had been serving on a merchant navy ship for the past few years, was the only survivor of this major tragedy. At around 2 am, the commercial ship named ‘JFS Galaxy’ was sailing towards the UAE port.
When the ship was just a few kilometers away from land, the Iranian forces targeted the ship and launched a missile attack. The Iranian forces had directly targeted the ship’s engine room to prevent the ship from moving forward. As the missile hit, a massive fire broke out in the engine room.
When the fire engulfed the ship and the situation became extremely dangerous, all the crew, including the Indians on board, showed their sense of time. Everyone immediately jumped into the lifeboat and moved away from the ship, saving their lives. After the attack, the crew immediately contacted the Oman Navy and requested for help. The Oman Navy, which immediately went into action, safely rescued all the crew who were stranded in the middle of the sea and took them to their military base.
It has been reported that all the crew on the ship, including the coastal youth Rachan Poojary, are currently in Oman and are under the direct supervision and safe custody of the shipping company officials. His family members in Biliyur, Bantwal, breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the news that the young man escaped unhurt.
