Mangaluru: Infant Jesus English Medium School, Modankap, Bantwal in association with Derik’s Chess School conducted a one day inter school level rapid chess tournament for children on 9th August 2026 at Infant Jesus Church Hall, Modankap.
The tournament was participated by more than 200 players across the district. Tournament was held in 8 categories.
Inauguration:
The tournament was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza, Parish priest & Joint Secretary, Infant Jesus English Medium School. He insisted that children should play games like chess tournament enhance their mental abilities.
Chief guest of the program Renowned surgeon Dr. Chaitra Bhat also spoke in the occasion and explained that chess though on outset it looks like a simple game but is more intrinsic due to almost near infinite possibilities over the moves.
Rev. Fr. Melwin Lobo, Headmaster, Deric Pinto, Founder, Derik’s Chess School, Chandrashekhar Bhandary, chess promoter were also present on the dais.
Prize distribution:
In a colorful valedictory ceremony, prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr. Melwin Lobo, Headmaster; Deric Pinto, Founder, Derik’s Chess School; Prasanna Rao, Co founder, Derik’s Chess School; Koushik R, Chief Arbiter.
