Jordan, September 01: Iran launched ballistic missile attacks on two US air bases in Jordan. Iran launched retaliatory strikes after US forces attacked Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that the missile attacks targeted technical infrastructure, maintenance facilities and fighter-jet positions at King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases.
This caused heavy damage. Jordanian air defense forces repelled the Iranian missile attack, Al Arabiya reported.
Iran retaliated after the US attacked two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps said the US strikes caused casualties. But it did not give details on how many people were killed or injured. The spokesman said US forces shot down two Iranian launchers on Larak Island.
The US military said the launchers posed a threat to shipping in a strategic waterway through which a significant share of global oil supplies pass. The exchange of fire has resumed six months after a US-Iran war as hostilities, which had eased since an April ceasefire, have intensified again around the Strait of Hormuz.
The US attack on Larak Island took place in two stages. Iran’s IRIB broadcaster also said that sounds heard in the nearby Sirik region were caused by Iranian defense operations.
The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) had previously vowed to retaliate, warning of “revenge against the criminals” and “punishment for the aggressors.” Hossein Mohebbi, the IRGC’s spokesman and head of public relations, described the US move as a “grave mistake.”
