It has clarified that working after entering the country on a tourist visa or via visa-free entry constitutes a serious offense under Malaysian immigration laws; violators face arrest, imprisonment, and deportation.
False Promises by Agents and Associated Risks
Fraudulent agents are sending Indian youths to Malaysia under the visa-free facility by promising them lucrative jobs. Once the 30-day period expires, these individuals are forced to stay in the country illegally. Consequently, they are classified as illegal immigrants and subjected to exploitation by local mafias. Furthermore, they endure harrowing conditions, lacking professional rights, medical insurance, or the security of a minimum wage. Rules for those traveling for work:
Mandatory valid work visa: Individuals wishing to work in Malaysia must obtain an authorized work permit or a ‘Visa with Reference’ (VDR) from India before traveling.
Tourist visa not for work: The 30-day visa-free facility is restricted solely to tourism and visiting family or friends; it cannot be converted into a work visa under any circumstances.

To avoid harassment or being sent back during immigration checks, tourists must adhere to the following rules:
Passport validity: The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months.
Travel documents: Travelers must possess a pre-booked return flight ticket, proof of hotel booking, and evidence of sufficient funds (bank balance/cash) to cover travel expenses.
MDAC registration: It is mandatory to fill out and submit the ‘Malaysia Digital Arrival Card’ (MDAC) online at least 3 days prior to the date of travel to Malaysia.
