Dhaka, Sep 28: A deeply alarming incident has occurred in Bangladesh, further heightening concerns regarding the safety of the Hindu community.
Local media reported that the body of a Hindu man was found inside a drum floating near the sluice gate in the Begunbari area of Mymensingh district. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar. He ran a jointly owned jewelry shop in the Atharabari Building area of Mymensingh.
Police have not yet determined the identity of the perpetrators or the motive behind the crime.
Stab wounds inflicted by a sharp weapon were found on the deceased’s head and chest. Police suspect that Niranjan was murdered before his body was placed in the drum and dumped into the water. Authorities stated that a token issued by the ‘Mymensingh Hindu Cooperative Credit Union Ltd.’ was found in the pocket of the deceased’s trousers. Contacting the organization using this token helped establish the deceased’s identity as Niranjan Chandra. Subsequently, his wife, Sumita Rani Sutradhar, and son, Joy Sutradhar, identified the body.
Niranjan, who lived with his wife and son in a rented house near the stadium area in Mymensingh, had been missing since September 20. He had left home that day, and his nephew reported seeing him near the stadium the following day. As Niranjan had previously stayed away from home for extended periods, his family initially assumed he would return.
The police recovered the body on Wednesday morning after locals alerted authorities upon spotting a drum floating in the water near the sluice gate in the Begunbari area.
