Uttarakhand, Sep 28: Torrential rains continue to lash Uttarakhand, and the Badrinath-Rishikesh National Highway has been closed once again due to landslides.
Vehicle movement on the highway has come to a complete halt after soil and boulders from the hillside slid onto the road in the landslide-prone Sirobagar area near Srinagar.
Due to the road closure, hundreds of vehicles carrying pilgrims—both those heading to Badrinath Dham and those returning from there—are stranded on both sides. Teams from the National Highways Department and disaster management units have arrived at the site and commenced operations to clear the debris.
The risk of landslides persists in several vulnerable areas, including Sirobagar, amidst the heavy rainfall. Consequently, officials have urged pilgrims to avoid unnecessary travel and to strictly adhere to the advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and local authorities.
