Surat, Oct 5: A content creator was arrested on Monday in Surat, Gujarat, for posting a ‘reel’ on social media in which a Rs.500 currency note—bearing the image of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi—was used in an objectionable manner.

The arrested woman has been identified as 47-year-old Simran Patel, who has over a million followers on Instagram.
Surat police arrested Simran, a resident of the Adajan area, stating that she had posted the video on her social media accounts between 1 PM and 6 PM on October 1, the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
The Surat police announced the arrest via their official account and shared a video clip featuring ‘before and after’ visuals related to the content creator; the first segment shows her handling the currency note, while the second shows her being handcuffed.
Police stated that in the video, the woman used the Rs.500 note—featuring Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait—in an objectionable way. Strong objections were raised on social media due to the inappropriate visuals and gestures associated with this video.
