Mumbai: A gas tanker overturned on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at Khandala Ghat section, causing heavy traffic on both the roads, disrupting traffic overnight. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded, causing heavy traffic on both the roads.


Vehicles were parked near the accident site for several hours. There was no food, water or toilet facilities for the passengers.
The gas tanker accident that occurred last evening led to the Mumbai-bound traffic being diverted for about 2 km to the Pune-bound route. Due to the continuous gas leak from the tanker, even Pune-bound motorists could not restore normal traffic as long queues and traffic jams persisted for more than 12 hours.
The impact on motorists was severe, with several passengers stranded on the route for hours.
A tanker overturned on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at around 5 pm on Tuesday. The incident took place near the Adoshi tunnel in Raigad district. The tanker, which was moving at high speed, lost control due to a slope and overturned. After the accident, gas was seen leaking from the tanker, causing panic among motorists.
The tanker was carrying highly flammable propylene gas. As a precautionary measure, the police immediately stopped the traffic towards Mumbai to avoid any untoward incident.
