Kenyan MLA takes oath holding Bhagavad Gita

Kenya, Feb. 26: A young political leader in Kenya has caught the world’s attention by taking oath holding Bhagavad Gita in his right hand. This historic event took place at the Assembly in Mombasa County.

Caleb, a young MLA representing Changamwe constituency in Mombasa County, came to take oath with Bhagavad Gita in his right hand and took oath holding the Gita in his right hand.

Speaking on this, ISKCON’s Omkara Mukunda Das said that this move is not dramatic, not for publicity, but that feeling has arisen in his heart, that is the truth, and this is a deliberate move.

In a country entwined with traditions, Caleb’s decision to take oath on Bhagavad Gita has given rise to new hope. Caleb is a devotee of the Hare Krishna community, and joined ISKCON through his elder brother.

As the president of The Better You Club, a university-based initiative established in 2021 to spread Vaishnava culture among students in Mombasa, Caleb has helped the club grow to 180 members.

Caleb took the oath of office while holding up the Bhagavad Gita As It Is in the presence of the assembly members. The Mombasa Youth Assembly operates under the umbrella of the Kenya Youth Assembly. It is a platform for young leaders to practice responsibility before entering formal politics.

In the US, Kash Patel also took the oath of office while holding the Bhagavad Gita after becoming FBI Director. Indian Australian MP Varun Ghosh did the same. But they were all originally Indians.
