Bengaluru: Gas-based power plant shut down in Yelahanka, but power supply not affected

Bengaluru: The state energy department on Thursday said that despite the shutdown of the 350 MW gas-based power plant in Yelahanka, there will be no problem in meeting the state’s power demand during the summer.

The state has recorded the highest electricity demand of 18,800 MW in the last two years. Last year, the demand was 18,395 MW on March 7 and 19.

In the wake of the conflict in West Asia, the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has stopped gas supply to the Yelahanka gas power plant, a Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) official said.

In this context, the Yelahanka power plant has been temporarily shut down due to increased demand for gas for other sectors. However, officials said that this will not have a major impact on power generation.

Solar power generation has also increased in the state. He said that since power supply is also available from other sources, it will be possible to meet the increasing demand during the summer season.

The current total power generation capacity of the state is about 36,000 to 37,000 MW, of which about 56% of the power comes from renewable energy sources.
