Paying toll while holding FASTag in hand will now be a punishable offence

Bengaluru, May 07: While travelling in a car, do you show your FASTag in your hand when you reach the toll plaza without affixing it to the windshield (front glass)? If so, this news is for you. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now taken strict action against such drivers. It has warned that from now on, the FASTag of those who do this will be directly ‘blacklisted’.

Violation of the rule will result in a fine!

The NHAI has issued new guidelines to increase transparency and prevent fraud at toll plazas. According to the rule, it is mandatory to affix the FASTag on the windshield of the car.

Warning of FASTag cancellation

Those who intentionally show it in their hand without affixing it will be identified and their FASTag will be deactivated. This may result in you having to pay double toll or face legal action the next time you travel.

Why is this important?

When there is a FASTag on the windshield, the cameras and sensors there immediately scan it. This makes it easier to move around without stopping the vehicle. If the FASTag is not affixed to the glass, it is likely to be used for more than one vehicle. NHAI has now taken this tough step to prevent such irregularities. Showing the FASTag in hand causes delays and disruptions in the toll system.

Stay away from fraud networks

NHAI has also advised drivers to take some safety measures. Be careful of fake websites selling FASTags that lure you. Use only the ‘Rajmargyatra’ app or the official website of banks for FASTag recharge or other tasks. Do not share your OTP, card details or login password with anyone. Do not click on unknown links. Overall, to avoid your FASTag from getting blacklisted, stick it on the windshield of your car in the correct order today or right now.
