After the death of peacocks, now 30 chickens die – increased concern about bird flu

Tumakuru, May 02: The fear of bird flu is increasing day by day in Tumkur. After the series of deaths of peacocks reported in the last few days, now the death of chickens has also occurred in the same area, which has increased the concern.

Samples of the dead chickens have been sent to the FSL for testing and an investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of death.

It has already been confirmed that bird flu is the cause of the death of 44 peacocks, and now it is suspected that the same reason may have been the cause of the death of chickens as well.

The series of deaths of peacocks had started across Tumkur taluk since April 16. As many as 44 peacocks had died in just 11 days. Initially, it was suspected that these deaths may have occurred due to excessive heat and dehydration as the temperature was rising in the district. However, the FSL report has confirmed that the peacocks died due to bird flu infection.

Now, about 30 chickens have died simultaneously at a poultry farm in Bommanahalli village of the district, leading to suspicion of bird flu. Meanwhile, officials of the Animal Husbandry and Health Department have declared a high alert.
