Mangaluru, July 06: A 28-year-old man stabbed a PU college student who was waiting at a bus stand on Monday, police said.
The incident took place at the Montimaru Padpu bus stand in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, they said.
The accused has been identified as Jawwar (28), a resident of Montimaru Padpu. He runs a grocery shop near the bus stand, police said.
According to the police, the 17-year-old student was waiting for a bus to go to college when the accused attacked her with a knife.
When other passengers at the bus stand shouted, the accused Jawwar fled the scene.
The injured student has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru and is undergoing treatment.
After receiving information about the incident, the police visited the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation and later recorded the victim’s statement at the hospital.
The motive behind the attack is not yet known and will be ascertained during the investigation, the police said.
A case has been registered and a special police team has been formed to track down and arrest the absconding accused, the police said.
