Massive fire in Delhi hotel: 21 dead, death toll likely to rise

New Delhi, June 03: 21 people have died in a fire that broke out in a five-storey hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. It was reported that the fire broke out in the hotel around 9 am today. Firefighters are engaged in rescue operations.

More than 30 people rescued

The fire broke out when there were many people in the hotel. According to current reports, more than 30 people have been rescued. The rescue operation was initially challenging due to thick smoke. Since the hotel is located on a narrow street, it was difficult for fire engines to reach the spot.

Foreign nationals suspected to be trapped

Some people jumped off the building to escape the fire and thick smoke. According to locals, there were many guests in this hotel, which has about 25 rooms, when the incident took place. Most of them were foreign nationals who had come to India for treatment. The severity of the disaster was heightened as the fire broke out in the morning while most of them were still asleep. There is also a restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel.

I informed the police as soon as the hotel caught fire. When I came out, the entire hotel was engulfed in flames. I don’t know how, I somehow managed to escape and save my life,” said a hotel staff member. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
