Hubballi, Oct 24: The menace of dangerous ‘manja’ (glass-coated kite string) continues in Hubballi. Following a recent incident where a woman lost her life, it is now reported that a young man has sustained serious injuries due to such a string.

The threat of ‘manja’ has resurfaced in the commercial city of Hubballi. Shortly after a woman died when a ‘manja’ string got entangled around her neck, another incident has occurred in Unakal, where a young man sustained severe facial injuries after coming into contact with such a string.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday evening. It is stated that the ‘manja’ string struck the young man’s face, causing injuries to his nose and the area surrounding his eyes.
The injured man was immediately admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital in Hubballi for treatment. It is reported that doctors have advised surgery for the injuries sustained around his eyes and nose.
When will the use of ‘manja’ be curbed?
The fact that another person has been injured—so soon after the tragic death of a woman caused by ‘manja’—has heightened concerns regarding the use of these dangerous strings. Such strings often end up on busy roads, leading to serious injuries and posing a threat to human life. This incident has once again highlighted the need for the strict enforcement of regulations prohibiting the use of ‘manja’ (glass-coated kite string). There have also been calls for the concerned authorities to take immediate action to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.
Just recently, in this same city of Hubballi, a woman lost her life after becoming entangled in ‘manja’ string. While that incident remains fresh in public memory, another person has now sustained serious injuries in the same city of Hubballi after getting caught in ‘manja’ string.
