New Delhi, April 16: Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a man on charges of duping over 500 young women across the country of about Rs 2 crore through a dating and matrimonial app, officials said.

The arrested accused has been identified as Anand Kumar, a resident of West Bengal. He is involved in countless cases of honey-trapping, romance scams and blackmailing.
Police said he created several fake social media profiles posing as a doctor, businessman or filmmaker to gain the trust of women.
The accused would contact the victims by promising love and marriage. Later, he would fabricate stories like medical emergencies and business losses, police officials said.
On several occasions, he is accused of blackmailing the victims by threatening to post their private photos and videos online. Kumar targeted over 500 women and duped them of about Rs 2 crore, police said.
The case came to light after a victim filed a complaint alleging a loss of about Rs 7 lakh. The accused was traced and arrested from 24 Parganas area of West Bengal using digital tracking. Officials have seized four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, debit cards and gold ornaments from him. Further investigation is underway.
