Pranab Mohanty, who investigated the Dharmasthala case, appointed as CID DGP

Bengaluru, June 08: In its first major transfer, the newly formed DK Shivakumar-led Congress government has appointed senior IPS officer Pranab Mohanty as the chief of the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The government issued a notification on Sunday, transferring Mohanty from the current post of Director General of Police (DGP) of the Internal Security Division to the post of DGP of CID, Special Units and Economic Offences, Bengaluru.

Mohanty has also been given the concurrent charge of the post of Director General (Cyber Crimes) of the Criminal Investigation Department, Bengaluru. Notably, Mohanty will continue to head the Cyber Command Unit (CCU) set up to handle and investigate cyber crimes across the state. He was also known for heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that probed the mass funerals held in the temple town of Dharmasthala in coastal Karnataka.

In another major change, Chandragupta has been appointed as the Director General of Intelligence Police, Bengaluru, replacing Labhu Ram. A 2006-batch IPS officer, he was earlier the Director General of Security (Intelligence) Police, Bengaluru. The government has not given any post to Labhu Ram.
