Kota: An explosion on the railway tracks in Ganganagar, Rajasthan, has drawn the attention of the nation’s security agencies. An investigation is currently underway to determine who is behind the blast—whether the intent was merely to damage the tracks, or if it was part of a larger conspiracy to commit an act of sabotage. Several investigative agencies are also examining the possibility of links to Pakistan-based terrorist networks and sleeper cells.

The explosion occurred on the night of November 3 near the village of 50 GB, along the Anupgarh–Suratgarh railway line in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district. Two concrete sleepers supporting the tracks were damaged, and a crater approximately two feet deep was formed beneath the rails. Reports indicate that the clips securing the tracks were also damaged. A passenger train had passed along this route just 45 minutes before the explosion, leading to concerns that a major railway disaster was narrowly averted. The sound of the blast was reportedly heard up to 200 meters away. Investigation by Multiple Agencies: Given the gravity of the incident, the Rajasthan Police, the Intelligence Department, the Crime Investigation Department (CID), the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are engaged in the investigation. Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have collected samples from the scene, and the Bomb Disposal Squad has also conducted an inspection. Efforts are underway to determine what material was used for the explosion, how it was detonated, the motive behind it, and whether any individuals were involved.
Suspicion Due to Proximity to the Pakistan Border: Ganganagar district is located along the border with Pakistan. Consequently, the investigation is also exploring the possibility of involvement by a cross-border network. Reports suggest that authorities are examining potential links to the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti network or other terrorist organizations.
However, no direct connection between the explosion and any terrorist organization or Pakistan-based network has been officially confirmed to date. While the potential involvement of ‘sleeper cells’ has been raised as a possibility during the investigation, no evidence to substantiate this has been made public. Seizure of 7.75 kg of RDX: A New Dimension to the Investigation – Recently, in the Rawla Mandi area of Sri Ganganagar district, authorities seized approximately 7.75 kg of RDX, two Turkish-made Zigana pistols, four magazines, around 867 rounds of ammunition, batteries, and remote controls. It was suspected that these explosives and weapons might have been sent from Pakistan via drone. Consequently, investigators are examining whether there is any link between this seizure and the explosion on the railway tracks.
However, Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police, Harishankar Yadav, has clarified that no connection has been established so far between the seized RDX and the railway explosion.
Disruption to Train Services – Following the explosion, train services on the Anupgarh–Suratgarh route were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. On Nov 4, four passenger train services operating along this route were cancelled. Railway officials undertook an inspection and repair of the tracks.
Concerns Regarding Railway Security – Railway tracks constitute a vital part of the nation’s transport infrastructure. Explosions or deliberate acts of sabotage in such locations pose a significant threat to the lives of passengers. The occurrence of such an incident in a border area has further heightened the concerns of security agencies.
Investigators are currently proceeding with the probe based on forensic reports, the nature of the explosion, evidence gathered at the scene, and the connections of potential suspects. Official details regarding the true motive behind the blast and the identities of the accused are yet to emerge.
The explosion on the railway tracks in Ganganagar has raised serious questions concerning border security and railway safety. While possibilities involving links to Pakistan, sleeper cells, or terrorist networks are being examined, the involvement of any specific terrorist organization has not been confirmed at this stage.
