Mangaluru: St Aloysius Pre-University College conducted a comprehensive Orientation Programme for I PU students, providing a meaningful introduction to PU life while fostering values, life skills, and personal growth. Designed to prepare students for the demands of a rapidly evolving world, the programme featured a series of enriching sessions led by eminent academicians, counsellors, and professionals.









Dr Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal of PA First Grade College, delivered an inspiring session on “The Subconscious Edge: Unlocking the Secrets of Peak Performance and Success.” Encouraging students to believe in their potential, he explained how thoughts, attitudes, and self-belief influence success. Through practical techniques such as positive affirmations, visualisation, and goal-setting, he motivated students to develop resilience; stays focused, and pursue excellence.
Addressing the opportunities and challenges of the digital age, Mona Mendonca, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of History at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), spoke on “Upholding Integrity in the Age of AI.” She urged students to use artificial intelligence responsibly, stressing the importance of originality, critical thinking, and academic honesty. Her session encouraged students to view technology as a tool for learning rather than a substitute for effort and creativity.
Commerce students benefited from an engaging session by Dr Preethi on “Realm of Commerce.” Highlighting the diverse opportunities in finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, economics, law, and fintech, she encouraged students to dream boldly and explore the many career paths available in the field. Her interaction prompted students to reflect on their aspirations and future goals.
Adding an element of inspiration, Caroline Maria Pais, a practicing advocate and soft-skills trainer, delivered a motivational talk that resonated deeply with students. Drawing from her professional journey, she spoke about perseverance, purpose, and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook when faced with challenges.
Helping students settle into a new phase of life, Dr. Vidya Vinutha D’Souza, Head of the PG Department of Social Work at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), conducted a session titled “New Campus, New Choices and New You.” Introducing students to the Jesuit ideals of MAGIS, service, and Cura Personalis, she encouraged them to make thoughtful choices, embrace opportunities, and grow into compassionate and responsible individuals.
The importance of interpersonal skills was highlighted by Dr Malini N. Hebbar, Principal of Swastika National Business School, during her lively session on “Soft Skills for Teens.” Through relatable examples and engaging interactions, she underscored the value of communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and professional etiquette in both academic and personal life.
In a forward-looking session titled “Lead Beyond Limits,” Dr S. Ruban, Associate Professor and Dean, School of Engineering, St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), encouraged students to think beyond conventional boundaries. Speaking about emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics, he emphasised the need for leadership, creativity, adaptability, and ethical innovation in shaping the future.
Recognising the growing influence of technology in students’ lives, Ms Bakyalakshmi, Student Counsellor at St Aloysius PU College, conducted an engaging session on “Scroll, Play, Repeat: Digital Balance and Wellbeing.” She discussed the impact of excessive screen time and offered practical suggestions for maintaining a healthy balance between online engagement and personal well-being.
Students also gained valuable insights from an engaging session on “Mastering Life Skills” by Prathik B. Rai, Student Counsellor. He highlighted the importance of decision-making, time management, goal-setting, and effective communication, encouraging students to develop these skills as a foundation for both academic achievement and personal fulfilment.
More than an introduction to college life, the orientation programme served as a platform for students to reflect on their aspirations, build confidence, and connect with the values that define the Aloysian spirit.
