Iran shoots down several US warplanes at Jordan airbase

Tehran: Iran has claimed that it has carried out missile and drone attacks on US warplanes in Jordan. Amid the escalating conflict between the US and Iran in the Middle East, Iran has officially announced that it has carried out a massive missile and drone attack on US warplanes and refueling planes stationed in Jordan. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement on this, stating that the attack was carried out targeting Jordan’s Al-Azraq airbase.

What did the Iranian military say?:

The US airbase in Jordan was attacked with several ballistic missiles and numerous drones. Several US warplanes and refueling tankers were completely destroyed in this attack. Iran said several more planes were severely damaged.

Iran said the attack was in retaliation for the US’s recent nighttime bombing of bridges and infrastructure inside Iran. At the same time, Iran also called on the local population there to target anti-American interests in Jordan.

Revenge for hospital attack:

Iran said the attack was in retaliation for the US’s nighttime airstrikes that destroyed a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz, Khuzestan province. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called on Jordanians to target “aggressive and anti-Islamic American interests” in their country in a statement.

Iran has been attacking several US military bases in the region since the war in the Middle East began on February 28. Gulf states have strongly condemned the attack. Iran has targeted US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, with all three countries reporting Iranian drone and missile attacks. Iran has also claimed to have attacked US bases in Syria, although neither Washington nor the Syrian government has confirmed this.
