Dubai, June 13: Leading NRI businessman, Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, Dr. Shamshir Vialil has announced a huge compensation package of Rs 2.6 crore to help the families of the workers who died and were injured in a horrific road accident on Emirates Road in Dubai. The assistance is being provided to the families of the seven workers who died in the accident and the nine who were injured for financial recovery, emergency travel and education of their children.
Under this humanitarian program of Dr. Shamshir Vialil, Rs 26 lakh each to the families of the seven victims who lost their lives in the accident. Financial assistance will be provided. A total of Rs. 47 lakh has been allocated based on the medical and treatment needs of the nine seriously injured survivors. Along with this, Rs. 18 lakh has been allocated for the emergency travel and accommodation of the victims’ families to Dubai and Rs. 13 lakh for the further education of the children of the families who lost their livelihood due to the accident.


Background of the accident and details of the victims
The tragedy occurred when a minibus carrying employees of a Dubai-based company hit the back of a truck parked on the road due to a technical fault. The injured include workers from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Of the seven deceased, six are Indians (three from Uttar Pradesh and three from Telangana) and one is a Sri Lankan. Of the nine injured, eight are Indians (two from Kerala) and one is from Nepal. Five of the injured have already been discharged from the hospital, while three Indians are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
Coordination with Indian Embassy
Coordination is being achieved with the Indian Consulate in Dubai to ensure that this financial assistance is properly delivered to the deserving families. ‘We are in touch with the Indian Embassy and on a humanitarian basis, assistance will be extended to the victims of all the countries affected by this accident,’ said Dr. Shamshir.
Earlier, Dr. Shamshir had shown humanity by providing financial assistance of Rs 6 crore to the families of medical students who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
