Statue of Mahatma Gandhi Unveiled in North Dakota, USA

USA, Oct 30: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled yesterday, Thursday, October 29, at Peace Park, located in the heart of Bismarck, North Dakota.

The ceremony was attended by North Dakota First Lady Kathryn Helgaas Burgum (Kirstie Armstrong), North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, and the Consul General of India in Seattle, Prakash Gupta.

Peace Park, situated in the center of Bismarck—the capital of North Dakota—was established following the 9/11 attacks.

Previously, the Consulate General of India in Seattle had facilitated the installation of Mahatma Gandhi statues at the base of the Space Needle in Seattle, at the State Capitol in Lincoln (Nebraska), and at the Mansfield Center at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Including an earlier statue installed at the Bellevue Public Library (Oct 2009), this marks the fifth statue of Mahatma Gandhi established within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India in Seattle.
