mAadhaar to be discontinued today, new Aadhaar app to arrive

New Delhi: The mAadhaar app, previously developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will be discontinued on June 30. The mAadhaar app will be unavailable from July 1, 2026, i.e. from today. The government has appealed to people to use the recently developed ‘Aadhaar App’ with new security features. The UIDAI tweeted in this regard yesterday.

‘The mAadhaar app is ending tomorrow. Download the Aadhaar app for a better experience,’ the Aadhaar authority said.

Will old records be deleted?

The shutdown of the old ‘mAadhaar’ app will not delete any of your Aadhaar records or database. The app is just a digital medium to use the services. Your Aadhaar number and details will remain safe on the UIDAI server as usual.

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

The new app has several advanced technologies to provide a more secure and easy experience for users:

One-click Biometric Lock: Users can lock or unlock their biometric details (fingerprint/eye scan) with a single click.

Face Authentication: There is a system to log in to the app through facial recognition and ensure security.

QR code-based contact card: Instead of physical visiting cards, there is an editable QR code card facility to easily share details.

Other services: Download e-Aadhaar, book online appointments for Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) and view authentication history.

How to register in the new app?

Download the new Aadhaar App from the Play Store or App Store.

Select your preferred language.

Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
