Annual Feast of St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur–Karkala Begins with Deep Devotion

Attur–Karkala, Jan 25: The annual feast of St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur–Karkala, commenced with great devotion and solemnity as the celebrations were officially inaugurated through the hoisting of the Basilica flag.

This year’s feast holds special significance as the Basilica joyfully steps into its 10th anniversary of being declared a Minor Basilica, while also cherishing a rich spiritual history of over 250 years. The feast is celebrated with the inspiring theme “I have loved you” (Malachi 1:2), inviting the faithful to reflect on God’s enduring love.

The feast was formally inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese who hoisted the Basilica flag, marking the official beginning of the annual celebrations.

The inaugural programme was gracefully compered by Santhosh D’Silva, Vice President of the Parish Council. Rev. Fr. Alban D’Souza warmly welcomed all the devotees and invited them to actively participate in the feast celebrations. Addressing the gathering, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo extended his best wishes and prayed for the grand success of the feast. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ronald Noronha.

Also present for the programme were Rev. Fr. Robin Santhumayer, Assistant Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr. Roman Mascarenhas, Spiritual Director, along with priests, parish representatives, and a large number of devotees.
