New Delhi, July 14: Bollywood star Aamir Khan recently got married for the third time to a Hindu businesswoman, Gauri Spratt, at the age of 61. This has been the subject of intense debate, and now the head of the Muslim Darul Ifta, Mufti Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, has issued a fatwa against Aamir Khan.

According to Islamic teachings, it is not permissible to marry a non-Muslim woman, he said.
Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt got married on July 5 in the presence of close friends and family at their Mumbai home under the Special Marriage Act. Marrying non-Muslims is against Sharia. Hussain said that those who do so should repent before Allah.
He said he had issued a fatwa-e-aam based on the teachings of the Quran.
I have issued a public fatwa. I have explained the command of Allah as stated in the Quran. Believing Muslim men are allowed to marry only Muslim women and believing women. If a Muslim man marries a person of another religion, he will not allow it until she accepts that religion, he said, adding that marrying a non-Muslim is a “sin”.
“This is an unlawful (haram) act, and the person who does it is like committing a sin. Such a person should repent to Allah. He should turn away from this sin. I have expressed this opinion by issuing this public fatwa. Today, the image of Islamic Shariah around the world is associated with Muslims and their actions, so it was necessary to clarify this,” he said.
Non-Muslim leaders also look at what Muslims do. They think they are following the orders of Allah. So when anyone does something wrong, it sends the wrong message. The goal of Islam and Shariah is the same. He appealed to Muslims to respect their religious teachings and avoid actions that cause misunderstandings and have a negative impact on society.
